Research at TIB: Digital Infrastructures for Science
TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology is the German National Library of Science and Technology and a world-leading institution for information provision in science and technology. The library is committed to openness: it works to make information, publications, and scientific data more easily accessible, transparent, and reusable.
In addition to this core task, TIB conducts applied research to actively shape the digital transformation of science. Key research priorities include Data Science, Scientific Data Management, non-textual materials, Open Knowledge, Open Science, and Visual Analytics.
Key Research Areas
- Data integration: TIB develops AI-based methods, semantic technologies, and knowledge graphs to network the rapidly growing amounts of data in science and technology in a machine-readable format.
- Open Science & research data: A strategic focus lies on open science practices. TIB develops platforms that make scientific findings, research data, and software freely accessible. It heavily engages in Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI) consortia and wikibase-based collaborative research workflows.
- Citizen Science: TIB researches methods for the structured involvement of citizens in the research process to ensure data quality and enable participation through digital tools.
International Research Environment
TIB is a diverse and inclusive institution. It offers an English-speaking, highly networked research environment for international scientists. Currently, more than 630 people from 34 nationalities work at TIB. Close cooperation structures exist with Leibniz Universität Hannover, Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Leibniz Association, and leading international research consortia.
