Technische Universität Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) is one of Germany’s oldest technical universities, as well as being one of the country’s nine leading technical universities (TU9). Our six faculties cover a broad range of subjects, including engineering, natural sciences, economics, social sciences, architecture, education, and the humanities. We bring together expertise from different disciplines to find sustainable solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s global challenges.
In our core research area Future City, we explore topics such as health and resilience, sustainable construction and living, civic engagement, education, and culture. Our collaborative projects span research into urban production, sustainable material cycles, sustainable infrastructure, mobility and energy systems for urban and rural areas, and digitalisation strategies. Our goal is to research and fully understand solutions for efficient, environmentally friendly, healthy, socially inclusive and ecologically sustainable cities and urban regions, examining them in depth from architectural, historical, literary, philosophical, social, participatory, ecological and engineering perspectives.
Located in one of Europe’s most research-intensive regions, we provide an environment that fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration for researchers. Our international community, comprising individuals from over 100 countries, fosters cultural exchange and global networks. Our forward-looking research programmes encourage critical inquiry into the societal impacts of scientific innovation.
Our local research ecosystem comprises universities, federal research centres, Helmholtz Institutes, Fraunhofer Institutes, Leibniz Association research institutions, museums, libraries, and even a research airport. This creates a wide range of interdisciplinary research and networking opportunities for researchers and students. TU Braunschweig researchers have access to state-of-the-art laboratories, cutting-edge pilot plants and modern analytics facilities on campus.
