Ostfalia is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Lower Saxony. 10,000 students and 1,000 staff members learn, teach, research, and work together at the campuses in Wolfenbüttel, Wolfsburg, Suderburg, and Salzgitter.
Research at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences is characterised by a strong application focus and close ties to regional stakeholders. In interdisciplinary research fields and centres, scientists collaborate with companies and organisations in the region on current issues and develop practical solutions. Ostfalia is involved in a total of seven research fields, applying expertise from the areas of law, economics, social and healthcare, as well as technology and computer science. Research in the societal and social sphere takes place particularly in the research fields of Social Perspectives of Change and Research on Societal Participation and Health Services Research.
The research field Social Perspectives of Change focuses on societal transformation processes and the resulting challenges for actors in politics, business, and civil society. Key topics include education and public services, diversity and communication, individual economies and economic interrelationships, international relations, and legal frameworks. The aim of this research field is to analyse societal change processes from multiple perspectives and, based on this analysis, to develop scientifically sound options for action and policy development.
Research on Societal Participation and Health Services Research brings together the interfaces of social sciences, engineering, health sciences, law, and economics. The focus is particularly on healthcare provision (structures, processes, and outcomes) as well as technical and social solutions to support the participation opportunities of vulnerable individuals and organisations.
