Leuphana University of Lüneburg focuses its research and teaching on the major social transformation processes of our time. At the heart of its work lie key challenges such as climate change, digitalisation, socio-political upheavals, globalisation, and changing forms of work and organisation. These topics are addressed within interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research contexts, particularly in the fields of cultural and media studies, as well as political and social sciences. With a special focus on sustainable development, democratic resilience, socio-cultural change and digital transformation, Leuphana combines academic excellence with societal relevance.

Through strategic collaborations with partners in academia and practice, Leuphana is connected both globally and regionally. Interdisciplinary research centres and institutes shape the university’s academic profile and enhance its visibility within the global research community. These include, among others, the Leuphana Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) in Culture and Society, the Centre for Digital Cultures (CDC), the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD), and the Leuphana Center for Cooperative Security (LCCS). Leuphana also stands out for its educational structure, which is based on international standards and opens up innovative pathways: with the College for bachelor’s programmes, the Graduate School for master’s and doctoral studies, and the Professional School for part-time study programmes, it offers a model that is unique in Germany.

On its sustainable campus, the university provides a dynamic and international environment for excellent academic collaboration. An open and collegial research culture creates ideal conditions for inspiring exchange and innovative cooperation across disciplines. Visiting scholars receive individual guidance from the International Center (IC). Researchers also benefit from comprehensive services supporting their research activities and career development, access to physical and digital research infrastructures, and a wide range of academic professional development opportunities.
